Solution: Attention to Detail Preserves Property's Historic Style

A 4-star luxury golf and spa resort in South Florida suffered wind and flood damage in 2005 due to Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. The emergency stabilization of the property was originally completed by another firm, however, when it came time to negotiate with the insurance company, the property management company ran into difficulties. At this time, Rolyn was retained as a consultant to aid them with the insurance claim and damages.

Rolyn was instrumental in assisting with the settlement. As a result, Rolyn was hired by the hotel as a Specialty Contractor to oversee the restoration of the exterior of the building. The property is listed as a National Historical Landmark, an elite title offered to only 3 percent of all historic structures. A high attention to detail during the restoration was imperative to protect this status.

Rolyn handled the replacement of barrel tile roofing, which was selected to match the classic Mediterranean architecture of the 1926 structure. The scope of work also included exterior structural, stucco, and paint repairs. Throughout the restoration project the historic details of the building had to be taken into consideration.

The hotel often caters to high profile guests and is usually occupied to full capacity. Additionally, it is host to large events such as weddings, charity galas, and corporate conferences on a weekly basis. The restorations needed to be completed efficiently, quickly, and non-intrusively in order to allow scheduled events and stays to continue as planned. Rolyn successfully coordinated with hotel management on a daily basis to ensure that the construction schedule accommodated their planned events and high profile guests.

Despite the damages sustained, the hotel was returned to its original grandeur and was once again awarded the AAA Four-Diamond Award "for providing exceptional guest accommodations, excellent service and elegant atmosphere."
